The Passion of Christ

The Passion of Christ

Why did Jesus die such a gruesome death publicly?
Why did He stay in the grave for 3 days?

According to Mosaic Law, the lamb to be sacrificed at Passover must stay in the temple for 4 days, in order for the lamb to be inspected by the priests because the lamb to be sacrificed for Passover had to be blameless.

Exodus 12:3 Tell all the congregation of Israel that on the tenth day of this month every man shall take a lamb according to their fathers' houses, a lamb for a household.

Exodus 12:5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats,

Exodus 12:6 and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight.

Jesus followed the Law and he stayed in the temple for 4 days before He was arrested.

Did you know that Jesus died on Thursday, 14th of the month of Nissan because, as Luke said, the next day was a high day of Sabbath, which was the beginning of a week celebration for the feast of unleavened bread which would last for 7 days, starting with a high sabbath and ends with a high sabbath.

Therefore the next day that Jesus died was not the normal sabbath, which was a Saturday.

Luke 22:1 Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread drew near, which is called the Passover. And the Chief priests and the scribes were seeking how to put him (Jesus) to death, for they feared the people.

The normal sabbath was 16th of Nissan in that year.

Jesus is in the court of men. His judge is Pilate, a Gentile, his audience are the religious Jewish community who should have understood the prophecies. They are oblivious. The Son of God, Creator of men, will be indicted by His best creation; which is man.

The choice is given to man. Just like in the Garden of Eden. Choose well to live!

And when a Gentile judge asked them to choose between Jesus the Son of God and Barabbas, the Son of the father of the world, because Barabbas is Bar Abbas in Hebrew which is son of the father. Quite the irony here, wouldn't you say?

The people will choose a liar, a criminal, someone who will abuse their community and their children instead of Jesus, their Saviour.

Does that not remind you of the choice in the Garden of Eden? Man choose wrong. He forgot to have faith in God and accepted to believe in the false promises of the serpent.

Another reminder of Genesis chapter 3 - the curse of the land affects Adam and all mankind.

Genesis 3:17 And to Adam he (God) said: Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, you shall not eat of it, cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life;

Genesis 3:18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field.

Jesus wore a thorn of thistle on His head.

Prayer

My friends, Easter is a reminder that Christ became your substitute 2000 years ago, so that you can be saved today. Christ suffered for your sins. He did it freely. He gave His life freely.

John 10:18 No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.”

Yes you are a sinner. We all are. We sin because we are born sinners, we have inherited the sinful nature of the first Adam (follow my Genesis teaching to know more).

Jesus was born to die for YOU! Because God LOVES YOU!

Did you know that you are created in the image of God. Do not let the father of this world, Satan, rob you of your inheritance. Sin has left scar on your spirit. But you can regain a sinless nature.

All that is required from you is:

1. To repent.

You need to accept that you cannot have a relationship with God by your own efforts, by your own righteousness, by your own merit. Because your righteousness will NEVER be equal to God. That is what the stories of the Hebrew Bible have shown, the weakness of man to follow the Law of God. The only man who followed the Law of God without failure was Jesus because He is the Law of God.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: the old has gone, the new is here!

Apostle Peter talking about Jesus said:

1 Peter 2:22 "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.

Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are - yet he did not sin.

Jesus took your place of condemnation to the cross; He died for You and Me. And now you can live eternally with God.

That was the intent of God when He created man in the garden of Eden.

2. Believe that Jesus is your saviour.

You need to believe that the sacrifice of Jesus has cleansed you and that you are now a child of God. It only requires a sincere repentance of your inability to serve God by your own merits and to believe that Jesus' sacrifice has saved you.

If you have done this prayer, I welcome you in the family of God.

Write a comment so that I can add you to my prayer list.

Happy Easter!
